Indigenous education was one of the primary tools used by the United States as a mechanism to colonize Indigenous peoples’ land. Now there is a movement of Indigenous educators creating new pathways forward. Mary Bowman, a long-time educator, is leading one remarkable model transforming Indigenous education in Mniluzahan (Rapid City), the Oceti Sakowin Community Academy.
